Bridging Cultures, Empowerment, Heritage, and Unity

Scholarship Committee Offers Art Student Scholarships:

Are you a high school or middle school student with an interest in creativity and the visual arts? Are you looking for financial assistance to help you take courses, workshops and/or camps to enhance those interests and skills? The Houston African Arts Festival offers scholarships to help qualified Houston area students in the visual arts attend such programs. Scholarship funds are raised by the participating artist donations and the community. We believe it is important to further the education and the love of art for Houston students.
Through the Houston African Arts Festival, HACIUSA offers scholarships to students in grades 7-12 to apply towards local art classes, camps, and workshops. If you are a young aspiring artist from the Houston area and would like to develop your technique and learn new media, we would like to help you achieve that goal and develop your talents.

We ask that you meet the following criteria:

• A student enrolled in grades 7-12
• Have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.0 on a 5.0 scale)
• Unofficial copy of current transcript
• Be a resident of the following counties: Harris, Montgomery, and Fort Bend
• A letter of recommendation from a past or previous art instructor

Please print and fill out the application form and send accompanying materials to:

Scholarship recipients will be notified and will have an opportunity to either accept or decline the award. Students will not be issued any money directly; but will be paid to the instructor, art/class studio, or location. We will fund a maximum of $300.00 per class with a maximum of one class per application each semester.

HACIUSA will reserve the right to inquire about a scholarship recipient’s progress and attendance. Failure to attend classes and make satisfactory academic progress will result in disqualification from future awards.
